In this video, Danielle introduces herself and talks about being a survivor of former U.S. Olympics doctor Larry Nassar.
"Hi, my name is Danielle Moore and I'm a survivor of former Olympic gymnast doctor Larry Nassar. So, I was abused from my freshman year of high school to my senior year of high school when I did gymnastics. I did gymnastics for a total of 14 years, and probably should have stopped at around the 10-year mark. However, seeing Nassar, he wanted access, obviously, to victims. So, he kept allowing me to continue with gymnastics.
With my teammates, we did talk about what he did as abuse, but because he was a doctor and he had that authority, we questioned if it was okay or not. One of my teammates did tell a coach, and like other individuals, they did tell, you know other professors or Title IX offices. However, because of his power, he was able to continue working.
So when I actually realized and labeled what he did as abuse was quite a while afterwards, and I was actually driving home from work and I had called my mom just to see what was going on, and she told me that Larry Nassar was arrested for child pornography and child abuse, and my immediate thought was ‘that doesn't surprise me.’ And then my next thought was ‘that's because it was me.’ So I actually pulled over because I was so nervous. I hung up with my mom because I didn't want her knowing that I was freaking out, and I composed myself enough to drive home.
We started Googling and I found out that there was an attorney working on the case, so the first person I actually told was that attorney. Luckily he was very empathetic and listened to my story, and as I go on with these videos, I will continue to share my story throughout court and the process that I went through. So thank you for listening and hopefully this helps.
